This is very uncomfortable and necessary. I was born deaf/hard of hearing, and for about 30 years had mild-moderate hearing "loss". Most recent audiogram shows severe loss of the highest frequencies. I had noticed it was increasingly difficult to converse with different people at work as an educational assistant and as a massage therapist, even with hearing aids. People who are going through it can't be expected to articulate clearly or maintain sufficient volume, so my hearing has been impacting my ability to be an effective caregiver.
Audiologists advise they can't guarantee repairs, refittings, or any changes that might improve language access when hearing aids are more than 5 years old - my current pair are 7. So I could pay to have my current pair adjusted and not experience a meaningful improvement.
I have some coverage through work, but it only makes a dent - the amount I am requesting is what I will pay out of pocket. Given my current income situation, it would not be feasible.
I appreciate anyone sharing what they comfortably can, and can promise to do my best to pay it forward.
